Mr. Jason Courtney

SPANISH 1

When Jason was fourteen, he went on a missions trip with his church to Venezuela. At that time he didn’t know any Spanish and couldn’t communicate with the people there. At the age of sixteen he began working in restaurants, with people that only spoke Spanish. Again, he found himself in a situation where he needed to communicate and couldn’t. He thinks these experiences early on played a part in stirring a desire in him to learn Spanish.

In college he became more serious about Spanish. He graduated from Asbury University with a B.A. in Spanish, and also had the opportunity to study abroad for a semester in Seville, Spain. Classes were taught only in Spanish by native professors. He lived with a host family that only knew Spanish. It was a foundational experience.

For the last 19 years he has worked as a Spanish interpreter and translator. Ultimately he knows it is by God’s grace that he can speak Spanish; it’s a gift He has given him, to use for His glory. He has been amazed to see all the Lord has done, and is excited to think of what more He has in store! Ephesians 3:20.
